Deep into production of Season 2 in Europe
It was a busy spring! Why? Because we started shooting 8 brand new episodes for Season 2, which will air on History Television in Canada in the new year. Leading up to the fall, we’ll slowly be revealing which museums are going to be featured.
First Two Museums Revealed…
Over the last 3 months we went to two amazing museums in Greece and Russia. Here’s how it went down:
After months of tireless reading, phone calling, interviewing and scouring the internet, our Researcher, Karen Dougherty, Executive Producer, Robert Lang, and our former series producer, Steve Gamester, had everything in place to shoot.
Shoot 1: National Archaeological Museum of Athens
In March, episode director David New (Museum Secrets: Inside the Louvre) and the crew travelled to Athens, where they explored the city and amazing ancient ruins in the countryside. At the National Archaeological Museum we examined artifacts and their fascinating stories in order to trace the history of western civilization, legendary myths and gods. We can’t reveal too much until the season broadcast, but in the meantime, take a glimpse of where we went and the Museum Secrets team at work.
Shoot 2: The State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg
In June we flew to Russia to explore one of the foremost icons of world heritage. Luckily, most of our camera crew have super elite status with the airlines, because they’ve stocked up so many air miles. Their perks from the airlines to accommodate extra bags with all of their cameras and boom microphones came in handy.
David Langer and the team captured some great shots of light in the museum and stories at the Hermitage – a very grand museum, with nearly 400 rooms.
You can see below what beautiful surroundings the Hermitage is made of, with ornate fixtures that have been around for centuries.
Stay tuned here and on our facebook page for more news and photo sets, which we’ll post each time the crew gets back, and we reveal another museum that will be on the show next.
We can’t wait to show you the new TV series and our updated website. Until then, learn about our team and how we create the series along the way.
