Filming at Museum Island in Berlin wraps
We’ve just returned from our shoot in Berlin at Museum Island, a complex of five internationally significant museums (Altes, Neues, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode, and Pergamon) in the lively centre of the city.
In the middle of the Spree River, visitors find Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with vast collections of European art, archaeology and ethnology.
It was here our director David Langer and his crew explored secrets from the distant past, such as the mysterious power of the ancient Pergamon Altar. This massive structure inspired Hitler’s architect, Albert Speer, to create one of Nazi Germany’s most enduring images. Next, our team got up close and personal with the alluringly beautiful bust of Nefertiti, a 3300 year old artifact that continues to fascinate people today. They also solved the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle and uncovered the new and surprising story behind the Degenerate Art sculptures in the Museums’ collection. The team even learned the secret to making a Viking Ulfberht blade - and then actually tested one in a real sword fight!
The completion of this shoot marks the seventh completed Museum Secrets shoot. The eighth and last episode, is currently being filmed in Vienna while the six other episodes are now in post-production. The upcoming season will begin airing in January on History Television.
