What was Athens' secret weapon?
And who was responsible for saving the city?
The world would be a very different place without Athens’ contribution to philosophy, drama, and democracy. But in 480 BC this legacy was nearly erased, when the Persian Empire set out to destroy the city.
One man stood up in Athens’ democratic forum to alert his fellow citizens to the imminent invasion. And that man conceived of innovative warships to defeat it.
You might think the warships were Athens’ secret weapon. But they’re not. Who was responsible for saving Athens? And what was the city’s secret weapon?
All is revealed in Museum Secrets: Inside Athens’ National Archaeological Museum.
